1 August 2024 - Kuala Lumpur - Bor Hung Chong has been named the new Chief Executive officer (CEO) for Astrid Renew (“Astrid”) Malaysia effective 1 August 2024.
This appointment comes on the heels of Astrid's successful expansion into Japan with key hires in November 2023, as well as the recent US$800 million fundraise by Seraya Partners, Astrid's parent company, in December 2023.
Bor Hung Chong brings a wealth of experience in the renewable energy sector, having served as a founding team member and builder of NEFIN's Southeast Asian business over the past decade. During his tenure, he has developed, financed, and enabled the deployment of over 100MW of solar projects across the region.
"Bor Hung's impressive track record in developing and scaling renewable energy businesses makes him the ideal candidate to lead Astrid's market expansion in Southeast Asia," said James Chern, Seraya Partners' Managing Partner and Chief Investment Officer. "His expertise and local market knowledge will be invaluable as we work towards our goal of deploying $200 million in equity across the Asia Pacific region and growing Astrid into a $1 billion AUM business by 2027."
Bor Hung holds a Master’s from Tsinghua University’s Schwarzman Scholars program, and a dual degree in computer engineering and business management from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST).
"I am excited to join the Astrid team and contribute to the company's mission of driving energy transition in Asia Pacific," said Bor Hung Chong. "With Seraya Partners' strong backing and Astrid’s innovative approach, I am confident that we can accelerate the deployment of renewable energy solutions and create positive impact in the communities we serve."
